Magic Hurricane broke through for his first black type victory in last year’s edition of the staying feature, and trainer John O’Shea has confirmed the talented gelding in the 2016 Premiers’ Cup field.

Beginning his career under the guidance of prominent British trainer James Fanshawe, Magic Hurricane stormed onto the Australian racing scene in 2015; running third in the talent-rich Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap (1400m) a fortnight prior to his Premier’s Cup triumph.

Progressing to second behind Preferment in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m), the Hurricane Run gelding ended his impressive year with a strong win in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) on October 3rd.

Magic Hurricane failed to make much of an impressive through four autumn starts this year, but he is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up run for fifth at Rosehill a fortnight ago.

Brenton Avdulla will take the ride on the six-year-old, who will jump from barrier 9 with a race-high 61kgs.

Godolphin will launch a two-pronged attack in the Premier’s Cup after Allergic was also confirmed in the field this morning.

Running third behind Delicacy and Werther in the 2015 edition of the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m), Allergic was a standout over summer and autumn this year; ending his campaign second in each of the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) and Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m).

Allergic will carry winning form into the Premier’s Cup after taking out the prelude race a fortnight ago, has been confirmed to be partnered by leading hoop James McDonald and will jump from the ideal barrier 2.

Chris Waller is also set to be offered several good chances of success after confirming three of his stable’s stars in the Premier’s Cup field, including Junoob.

Junoob produced a number of typically smart efforts through the autumn and winter this year; running third in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) and second in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) most notably.

Having resumed this time for a credible third in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury last weekend, the Haafhd gelding will have to overcome a heavy weight, but has drawn ideally in barrier 4 and will be partnered by Blake Shinn.
