Thirteen runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s Listed Premier’s Cup (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting stayers.
Magic Hurricane was a standout for Godolphin through last year’s edition of the Spring Carnival, and has been included in 2016 Premier’s Cup nominations.
Beginning his career under the guidance of James Fanshawe in Britain, Magic Hurricane immediately stamped himself as one to watch upon debuting in Australia for success in the Randwick City Council BM94 (1400m) in June last year.
Running third in the talent-rich Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap (1400m) on August 15th, Magic Hurricane charged home to win the most recent edition of the Premier’s Cup.
Running second behind Preferment in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m), the Hurricane Run gelding ended his campaign with a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m).
Magic Hurricane failed to make much of an impact through four autumn starts this year, but is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from a first-up for fifth in the Canterbury RSL Spring Preview (1400m) on August 13th.
Godolphin is set to launch a two-pronged attack in the Premier’s Cup after O’Shea also included Allergic in nominations.
Third behind Delicacy and Werther in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m) most notably in 2015, Allergic produced a number of smart results through a summer and autumn campaign this year; placing second in each of the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) and Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) most notably.
Resuming this time for sixth in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) on July 30th, the Street Cry gelding returned to winning form in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) a fortnight ago.
Chris Waller is also set to be offered several good chances of success, after including all of Junoob, Loophole, Sacred Master and Thunder Down Under in 2016 Premier’s Cup nominations.
Junoob has been a strong and consistent performer for Waller through a long and busy career; posting eleven wins and thirteen minors through fifty-two starts.
Loophole has finished in the places in four of his last five starts, including a strong performance for second in the Premiers’ Cup Prelude last time out.
Sacred Master has been transferred to the care of Waller from Kiwi trainer Tony Pike for his 2016 Spring Carnival campaign, but has so far yet to make much of an impression through two starts.
A positive barrier trial is vital for Thunder Down Under, who ran sixth in the Dooleys BM78 (2000m) last time out on August 13th.
The 2016 Premier’s Cup field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (August 24th).
