Vilanova is yet to find peak condition over two starts this time, but is a proven Brisbane performer and is sure to lay a great account for himself on Saturday after being included in Premier’s Cup nominations.

Posting three wins and a further nine minors over 31 career starts so far, Vilanova found great condition over three 2014 Brisbane Winter Carnival starts; placing fourth in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) and winning the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) before running a credible third in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m).

Failing to beat a single runner home in the Royal Randwick 100 (1400m) first-up this time, the Commands gelding hit the line well when seventh in the TAB.com.au Handicap (1600m) last time out and is sure to take valuable condition from the run.

Hi Son was unable to match the late pace when tenth in the Toowoomba Cup (2150m) last time but is a leading chance of returning to the winner’s circle on Saturday after being included in 2015 Premier’s Cup nominations.

Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times through his 32 career starts so far, Hi Son ran second in a Sunshine Coast minor over 1400m first-up this time; progressing to sixth in each of the Listed Tails Stakes (1630m) and Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (2200m) leading into his luckless run in the Toowoomba Cup.

A proven performer over track and distance, Hi Son will be tough to beat in the 2015 Premier’s Cup.

Trainer Tony Gollan is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the 2015 Premier’s Cup having also included Hvasstan in nominations.

Beginning his racing career under the guidance of Peter Gelagotis, Hvasstan stamped his claims as one to watch over a standout debut preparation through the 2012 spring, highlighted by success in the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes (2000m) and a credible fourth in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).

Running a commendable sixth in his first start for Gollan on April 18th, the son of Fastnet Rock boxed on for fourth in the Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m) on May 9th and is sure to relish the step-up to 2000m this weekend.

The 2015 Premier’s Cup final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
