Hoylonny Aiming for Consistency in Premier’s Cup

August 29th, 2014

Charging home to secure an impressive victory amongst talented company in the Dooleys 3.y.o+ (1800m) last time out on August 16th, jockey Tye Angland is confident talented gelding Hoylonny can again figure in contention in this weekend’s Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Jumping from the gates well in the Dooleys 3.y.o+, Hoylonny settled well within the pack, finding a clear line upon reaching the final straight and charging home to beat Bonfire to the line by half a length; delivering on impressive $31 odds with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Having partnered the Lonhro gelding to a particularly frustrating eleventh in the Freshmarket Handicap (2000m) less-than one month prior to the Dooleys, Angland said he is confident he has found the secret to success on Hoylonny.

“He has been one of those frustrating horses,” Angland told The Daily Telegraph.

“He takes a lot of riding. He just has to produce what he did last run to be thereabouts, but he’s been so inconsistent.

“I got him to jump last start, he put himself into a position, he travelled well and quickened off it.”

Securing a total of seven wins and nine minor places from just 32 competitive starts so far, Hoylonny was disappointing when failing to beat a single runner home in either of his first two runs during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but responded in the best way possible when securing an impressive victory over a talented field which included the likes of Permit and Seccesio in the Cellarbrations Wingham Handicap (1900m).

Running second in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) and third in the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m), the gelding out of Roedean was again disappointing when beating just one runner home in the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m); returning to the paddock immediately after.

Returning with two forgettable starts first-up in May, Hoylonny ran on to finish second in the Listed Winter Cup (2400m) on June 28th, but was unable to figure when ninth in the featured Grafton Cup (2350m); his only other start prior to the Dooleys 3.y.o+.

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on this weekend’s Listed Premier’s Cup, for which Hoylonny is featured at a generous quote of $13 for success, or $3.90 to run a place.
