Appearing to have returned to the track in perfect condition this time in, Trainer John Hawkes has revealed he is confident in the chances of classy runner Entirely Platinum in this weekend’s Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Securing an impressive race record of six wins and four minor places from just 13 competitive starts so far, Entirely Platinum jumped only fairly amongst classy competition in the Canterbury Hurlstone RSL Handicap (1400m) on August 16th, however displayed a keen turn of foot in the final straight to finish a half-length in the clear of Mighty Lucky.
Understandably pleased with the Pentire gelding’s return to racing so-far, Hawkes told The Daily Telegraph Entirely Platinum has continued to produce work of a high standard and is capable of performing in even the most un-ideal of conditions.
“It was a good effort first-up to win by Entirely Platinum and I’ve been pleased with how he’s come on since,” Hawkes said.
“He’s a big, strong boy and it’s a plus he handles wet or dry.”
Failing to finish outside the places over five starts through the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, Entirely Platinum more than stamped his claims as a serious black type competitor when winning the Tallwoods Golf Club Handicap (1400m) with ease on August 29th, but was arguably most impressive when finishing second amongst a talented field in the Adina Apartment Hotels 3.y.o+ (2000m) at Randwick on October 12th.
Returning this year in similarly strong condition, the gelding out of Platinum Blond won each of his first three starts, including the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (1900m) before finishing a luckless fourth when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Open (2000m) on April 5th.
Yet to be confirmed for a specific racing path through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Entirely Platinum is currently available at generous odds of $21 for success in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18th with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
