2014 Premier’s Cup Results – Congratulations Zephyron!

May 24th, 2014

Zephyron ran a fantastic race this afternoon to take out the Group 3 2014 Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (2200m). In a hard race with plenty of potential for upset results, Zephyron stuck to his guns and performed admirably to top the Premier’s Cup results.

In second place was Precedence, who left everything on the track in order to finish where he did. Following closely was Pretty Pins, who pulled off a very tidy run to secure third place.

Zephyron‘s jockey Glen Boss was incredibly pleased with the run, saying that “(Zephyron) gave me a lovely ride.” Punters were surely on the edge of their seats for much of the race, with very little early indication of how the race would pan out.

Still breathless following the race, Glen Boss expressed concerns he held during the Premier’s Cup that he might have let the horse go a bit too soon, saying that “(Zephyron) pressed early, but I didn’t want to go that early.” Holding him back until he was perfectly positioned, Glen Boss let the horse have his head. Following the race, he said as soon as they started on the final leg of the race, Zephyron was “electric”.

No doubt Michael, John and Wayne Hawkes are pleased with the performance of their gelding, as a Group 3 win looks good on anyone’s record. Precedence in second place, trained by the Bart Cummings outfit and ridden by Glen Colless, did well to overcome a less than ideal barrier draw and some shakiness early in the race. Third-placed Pretty Pins had an excellent run as was expected under jockey Ryan Wiggins, and surely trainer John Thompson is happy with the mare’s performance.
